Music: Distraction? or A Helper? (R)

People say there are many distractions in school. Some say it's chewing gum, texting, tweeting, talking, eating/drinking in class ect. but other say music which I strongly disagree with. Music is basically life too some students. Without music, some classes would be chaos. There are many advantages to listening to music. One advantage is it helps relax students and to focus on work. For example, say you have a class that is very distracting. Students are talking behind and in front of you, some are tapping pencils and clicking pens, and your stressing over studying for a test. A student has two options: sit there and never be able to get his/her work done or put on head phones to help them relax and focus and not hear the distractions around them. If I was in that situation, I would put on the headphones wouldn't you? Another reason is it helps teachers get the class to settle down in some situations. Sometimes in Ms. Edsell's class ( My English Class) she lets us listen too music. When we listen to music, the class is less talkative and more quiet verse the times we cannot listen to music and we just talk to other students, get distracted, and become part of the distractions. Sometimes getting out of hand and our class getting points taken away. I love music and honestly can't really focus in class if I can't listen to it. Too many things distract me in class for me to. So to all teachers, music is not a distraction; it just helps drain them out.

Oh the Things You Can Do On Halloween

Jack-o’-lantern are a pretty popular tradition but, some may wonder how it came up. It originated from an Irish myth about a man nicknamed “Stingy Jack”. Jack put the coin in his pocket  (which was the Devil) beside a silver cross because it prevented him from changing back. He made a bet with the devil that he would not bother Jack for one year and that when Jack dies, he would not claim his soul. Jack made the Devil climb in a tree and he carved a cross on the tree so that he couldn’t come down.
The Devil promised not to bother Jack for another ten years. Jack couldn’t go to heaven or hell so he was sent into the dark with a burning coal as his light. The Irish started called his ghost the Jack of the Lantern. Later, they made their own jack-o’-lanterns into potatoes and turnips and put them in the window to scare away jack and evil spirits. The Americans started to use pumpkins.

Another popular tradition is apple bobbing. You fill a tub or large basin with water and put apples in the water. The apples are less dense than water and can float. The player catches the apple with their teeth. You can’t use your hands or else it is counted as cheating.

The last and my favorite tradition is trick or treating. They ask for candy or in some cultures money. The children go to door and ask trick or treat. The "trick" is a threat to perform mischief on the owners or their property. This has been customary in North America since the late 1940s. Homeowners usually decorate their property with Halloween decorations. In Great Britain and Ireland, children and poor people go door-to-door singing and saying prayer for the dead in return for cakes (souling). These both involved trick or treating. They ask for a small skull made of sugar or chocolate.

Ebola Outbreak (CEP)

Ebola Zombies ??

Ebola disease definition: an infectious and generally fatal disease marked by fever and severe internal bleeding, spread through contact with infected body fluids, whose normal host species is unknown. Symptoms show up 2 to 21days after infection and usually include the following: high fever, headache, joint and muscle aches, sore throat, weakness, stomach pain, and lack of appetite. There are 5 types of Ebola virus. Four types are found in  humans. The Ebola virus first appeared during two 1976 outbreaks in Africa.Ebola get its name from the Ebola river, which is near the village in the Dominican Republic of Conga where the disease first appeared. This disease has spread from Africa to the US, France, Spain, and maybe next the UK.

The world on the street says that there are such things as an ebola zombie (in the link above). Do you think this creature is real or fake? Only thing to do is to wait and see what happens.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (CCR)

In class we are reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and it is probably the most interesting book I have read in a long time. It's filled with twist, turns, and is just interesting. I recommend everyone to read this book. I think it is mysterious and reels you in with all the details it has. It has the best cliff hangers ever. I also feel like Jacob is a brave character. He went into a haunted house knowing there's a chance someone is in there or a ghost may pop out or anything could happen. He is also conquering his fears of just being afraid of everything. Another thing about the book are the pictures the author shows through out the book. These pictures make you think about if it's actually real or make believe. For example, their is a girl on the cover floating. If their was no photo shop or picture editing back then when the picture was taken how could she have done it? It has to be real right. The book is good for anybody for people who do or do not like to read.

The Girl Who Could Transport

What if somebody was stuck in a burning building and nobody had a way to get in? Or if you had to get somewhere with no car, ride, gas money, ect.? How about if you needed to get to point A to point B but could not? This is why transporting would be my power. Think about it. Imagine being able to just go to one place to another with one snap of your fingers. It would be pretty cool if you ask me. I would go everywhere in less than half the time it would take to fly or drive. People think flying would be so cool but transporting is way better. If I'm running late to school, all I have to do is transport and pop into class with no problem. All so if i get lost somewhere, I could just snap my fingers and then I would be there. Transporting would be awesome.

Do We Really Need It ? (OTR)

Have you ever sat in a class and thought when will I use this in life? Well, I feel that way in almost all my classes. English class I know is so, I will know how to use correct grammar, write college essays, ect. I know I will need that in life. Math will also be used in my life. People use math all the time. They use it to count money, figure out your pay, pay bills, to make sure you get back the right change, ect. Then, there is Social Studies. After knowing the basics of Social studies ( like the presidents, how government works, certain history) honestly I think I will not be asked what are the presidential requirements or who is Christopher Columbus or anything like that. Why should I learn something I never will use. Now if your going into the political world and being a judge, senator, president, or anything like that then I say go for it. You take all those classes, but if I am not going into that profession there is no point. Then the last and my favorite subject Science. Now this subject i know is useless to. If your not going into a profession requiring it then why take it. In my opinion, your should be based on your career path. I think by the time you in high school your classes should be based on this. That way people will be happy about the classes. They will actually want to take the courses and try in the class because they know they will use it in life. So think as you sit in your next classes and ask yourself," do I really need this in life?"
